Where Were You?

Some events are so momentous (like the JFK assassination or the Challenger explosion or the OJ "verdict") that you always remember where you where when it happened. I was at my desk in the Church Administration Building when the email went out that female employees of the Church could now wear pants to work. It really hasn't been that long since women had to wear nylons or stockings to work here, so this was a huge step forward. I even took a picture of my first day outfit. Yay for pants!

Jason and I took a quick trip to Wendover this weekend to see Diamond Rio in concert. Of course, my favorite was "Meet in the Middle" and I also loved "One More Day." They sounded really great live.

Dahlia got to spend Saturday night with her aunt who has a POOL at her apartment complex. This girl loves to swim.

Dog Days of Summer (City Creek Style)

I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Weiner

That is what I truly wish to be

'Cause if I were a Oscar Mayer weiner
Everyone would be in love
Oh everyone would be in love
Everyone would be in love with me

Silver Lake

Maybe there's not quite as much "lake" at Silver Lake as there was back in the day. But it's still a pretty drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon and a relaxing nature walk around the lake. Plus you get points for doing something outdoors as a family. So... I'd say Silver Lake on Saturday was a smashing success.

Here Comes the Sun

I wish I liked summer weather better. I really do. Unfortunately, when the temperatures reach the 90's, it does me in. Luckily, I went to Dahlia's softball game on a nice, overcast day. She did great and she's a pretty decent little pitcher, if I do say so myself.

We also had the chance to see the musical Cinderella. I've seen my share of musical theater in my day, and the Broadway production of Cinderella was truly fantastic. I can't believe I've never seen it before. I would go again in a heartbeat.

You can tell that Dahlia enjoyed it too. This picture was at intermission. She was so fun to watch the play with - especially during the fairy godmother scenes with the lightning fast costume changes. What a treat!

The Graduate

Something about Lauren's Kindergarten graduation picture just kills me. She calls this look her "secret smile" - although no one knows what she means by that. So I guess it is a secret after all.

Memorial Day Weekend

I love 3-day weekends. There is nothing better than a Sunday night when you don't have to work on Monday.

I especially love 3-day weekends when I have fun visitors. Uncle Hal and Aunt Patsy spent Monday morning with us. Mickey and Tay tried to setup Hal's iPhone without any knowledge of any of his passwords, and did a remarkable job. There was much laughter during a rousing game of Apples to Apples. And Aunt Patsy got to see "my new house" and take the tour.

We did pizza and ice cream for lunch. Easy and everyone was happy. Yay!

And I had a cool moment Monday morning when I opened my blinds and realized I finally qualified as an official grownup. The Scouts had left a flag in my yard for Memorial Day. (Apparently, that's how you qualify as a grownup in my mind.) I'm sure the neighbors thought I was weird for running out in my pajamas to take this picture. But it couldn't possibly have been the first time the neighbors thought I was weird - and it won't be the last time either.
